Municipal Recreation Departments
North Charleston Recreation Department
The City’s rec department offers year-round programs for all ages and oversees a large network of parks, playgrounds, and community centers. Also runs the North Charleston Farmers Market every Thursday from May–October at Park Circle Pavilion, featuring live music, food trucks, produce, and art vendors.
City of Charleston Recreation
The City of Charleston recreation department offers sports leagues, swim lessons, summer camps, and community events across multiple recreation centers citywide.
City of Goose Creek Recreation
Offers a wide range of inclusive programs and events for all ages, including youth sports, fitness classes, art programs, and a very active community events calendar. Home of the Joseph S. Daning Amphitheater, which opened in 2024.
🎵Concert Series: Creekapalooza — 3–4 free concerts each year at the Daning Amphitheater, featuring national acts.
🗓️Annual Events: Fall Festival, Farmers Market (March–November), Fabulous 4th in the Creek, and Summer Friday Night Concerts (July).
City of Hanahan Recreation & Parks Department
“Creating memories, building community, and keeping Hanahan active, one program at a time.” Offers sports leagues, fitness programs, and community events for Hanahan residents.
Town of Summerville Parks & Recreation
Official parks and rec for the Town of Summerville — one of the most active departments in the area, hosting concerts, festivals, movies, markets, and inclusive community events throughout the year.
🗓️ Annual events: Fireworks & Freedom Festival (July 4, Gahagan Park), Movies in the Park (3 films/year), Summerville Farmers Market (weekly, through Summerville Dream), Touch-A-Truck, Tree Lighting Ceremony (December), inclusive community dances
Town of Mount Pleasant Recreation Department
Manages recreation programs, parks, special events, and community activities across Mount Pleasant’s extensive facilities. The Special Events Office hosted 57 events in FY2025 alone.
🗓️ Annual events: Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival (free, July — celebrates Gullah Geechee heritage with live music, demonstrations, crafts, and food), Children’s Day Festival (October), Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival (spring), Mount Pleasant Farmers Market (Tuesdays, April–September), Holiday Market & Craft Show (December)
Town of Moncks Corner Recreation
The Moncks Corner Recreation Department serves the town and adjacent areas with youth sports, community programs, and local events.
City of Isle of Palms
Small barrier island city with a recreation center offering fitness programs, youth sports, and seasonal community events. The City’s main page covers all municipal updates including events.
Town of Sullivan's Island
A quiet barrier island town of fewer than 2,000 residents with a rich history and beautiful beaches. The town’s Facebook page covers community news, events, and local activities.
City of Folly Beach — City Events
“One of the last true American beach towns.” The city hosts a community center with exercise classes, nature walks, spring concert series at Folly River Park, and seasonal community events throughout the year.

City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department
Committed to fostering a multi-discipline arts initiative across five categories: general public, outreach, artist assistance, economic development, and City history. Produces the annual Arts Fest.

The annual festival is dedicated page — 5 days of free, multi-discipline arts events across North Charleston venues including libraries, community centers, and parks. One of the region’s premier free arts events.

City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs / Cannon Street Arts Center
Manages the Cannon Street Arts Center as a community-engaged cultural space, and produces the annual MOJA Arts Festival — a beloved celebration of Black arts and culture.
Annual Event: MOJA Arts Festival — September/October, featuring visual and performing arts throughout Charleston.

Charleston Arts (City of Charleston digital arts initiative)
A centralized digital hub for all arts events in Charleston, run by the City’s Office of Cultural Affairs. Great aggregator if you want a broad view of what’s happening across the art scene.

City of Goose Creek — The Creek Collective & Cultural Arts Commission
The Creek Collective is Goose Creek’s city-run arts venue at 222 St. James Ave, hosting art classes, gallery exhibitions, and cultural programming. The Cultural Arts Commission meets monthly and oversees arts initiatives citywide.

Town of Mount Pleasant — The Venue MTP Culture Art Stage
Brand new (opened January 2026) — Mount Pleasant’s long-awaited community arts center at 627 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. Features a main theater with modular stage, black box theater, dance/yoga studio, and gallery lobby. Hosts performances, improv comedy, dance, acting classes, and cultural gatherings. Already selling out shows.

Town of Summerville — Public Works Art Center
Town-supported community art center in downtown Summerville featuring three rotating galleries, 12 artist studio spaces, a gift shop, and art classes for all ages. The heart of Summerville’s visual arts community.

Local Event Venues
Riverfront Park — North Charleston
Set on the banks of the Cooper River on the former Charleston Navy Base, Riverfront Park is one of the region’s premier outdoor event venues. Hosts major music festivals, community celebrations, and seasonal events.
